The DeGeorge Legacy

The DeGeorge Legacy

"The DeGeorge Legacy" explores the remarkable story of Houston entrepreneur Michele DeGeorge and the multigenerational family enterprise he built in downtown Houston. Arriving in America as a Sicilian immigrant in 1882, Michele recognized opportunity in a rapidly growing city and spent decades building a business that evolved from grocery stores and rental properties into some of Houston's most recognizable hospitality landmarks, including the DeGeorge Hotel and the Auditorium Hotel, known today as the Lancaster. Drawing on decades of research, family archives, photographs, newspaper records, and oral histories collected by Miki Lusk Norton, this family business history examines not only the growth of a family business, but also the larger story of Houston itself—its rise as a transportation, commercial, and cultural center of the Gulf Coast.
