The Waterfowl and Wildlife Heritage Initiative, a program of the Center for Louisiana Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is dedicated to documenting, preserving, and sharing the traditions that have shaped Louisianau2019s hunting and outdoor culture for generations. Project #1 focuses on legendary Avoyelles Parish duck hunter and tradition bearer Dale Bordelon, whose decades of research, collecting, craftsmanship, and storytelling will form the basis of a new book exploring Louisianau2019s waterfowl heritage through the people who lived it and passed it down. The initiative launches this fall with Ducks, Dinner & Dale on September 10, a fundraising event supporting the book and future programming, followed by the Waterfowl Heritage Exhibitu2014An Immersive Experience at Festivals Acadiens et Cru00e9oles, October 10u201311, bringing historic photographs, artifacts, decoys, duck calls, oral histories, demonstrations, and traditional knowledge directly to the public.
