Central State Bank History
This project tells the story of Central State Bank and the people who built it—beginning with Roy Downs, who helped finance the growth of Shelby County in the postwar years, and continuing through the leadership of Bill and Deegee Schroeder, who guided the bank for more than three decades. Today, CEO Mitt Schroeder and his siblings carry that legacy forward, expanding the bank to eight locations while maintaining the values that defined it from the start. Built on oral histories, local records, and community voices, this work captures how a small-town bank became a lasting part of the county it serves.
